Ahead of the official opening of its training centre, dubbed, Centre for Vocation and Trade Project(CeVoTraP) in Ho, the Write for World Organisation has embarked on a community engagement and recruitment programme to identify prospective beneficiaries from the Guan District of the Oti Region. The programme which involved potential beneficiaries from Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe had the participants converge at Santrokofi- Bume and taken through Pre-Psychosocial and Behavioural Awakening lessons, safeguarding lessons, the “CeVoTraP” concept and what it meant for their livelihood.
Being the first of its kind to be initiated by the organisation, the project targets vulnerable teenage girls such as school drop outs, teenage single mothers, orphans and girls who suffer sexual gender based violence in Ghana’s rural communities.
The project sought to house the beneficiaries under intensive care and training for a period of one year where the trainees would be taught skills needed for the Fashion Design Industry with seasoned industry players. Free hostel accommodations would be provided and the training would be free of charge. After successful completion of the training, beneficiaries would receive personal sewing machines and essential tools for their establishment back in their various communities.
This First Phase of the project is funded by Plan International Ghana. The project is expected to provide sustainable alternative livelihood for at-risk, vulnerable and marginalized teenage girls in the low income generation communities and reduce poverty induced social vices among the youth.
Present at the programme were Abena A. Anim-Adjei – Youth Engagement Facilitator; Plan International Ghana, Jonas Mabe, Executive Director; Write for World, Elka Akasreku, Project Lead; Write for World, Paul Mensah Tetteh, Assembly Member; Santrokofi Bume/Gbodome Electoral Area, Nana Danso III, Ankobeahene of Santrokofi Traditional Area and other leaders of local women’s groups.
