The Project and Research Committee of Write for World, together with Mr. Gunner Hamlyn, the Economic Officer at the U.S Embassy in Ghana, visits the Avetakpo Community to ascertain the state of the school project.
The only school that had served the Avetakpo community and its adjoining villages was built in 1934. Over time, the source of learning for children within this community collapsed and the dreams of these children to have good education were cut short. For close to two decades, efforts by citizens of this settler community to rebuild a new classroom structure had halted due to financial constraint. Residents fear their children will not fit into the future as most of their children have dropped out of school. Write for World has therefore resolved to front the completion of this school project as it will bring children who have resorted to farming and petty trading back to the classroom and avoid the rampant unplanned migration, child labour and teenage pregnancies within this deprived community.
